recess
One day, in elementary school, my friends and I were asked to watch an autistic kid at recess because his teacher had to leave for a while. We hung out with him and played basketball with him and had a lot of fun. It was so awesome to see his face when we were with him because he had actually made friends that day. We all loved to see how much meaning that gave to him so we played with him every day for the rest of the year. We also started hanging out with the other autistic kids because it felt so good to give someone friends. I learned things that they were very good at. One of the kids was really good at building. Another kid would set up sticks along the perimeter of the playground. What was cool about it was that every stick had to be the perfect length and spaced perfectly apart from one another. If one was too skinny he would throw it back. If one was to short he would throw it back. If one was too far spaced he would replace it so it was perfect. the sticks were a wall, guarding the playground from anything bad. It just showed me that these kids are very intelligent just in many different ways than we are.
THEME STATEMENT: we are all different and our own ways
