Im glad I chose the topic that i did because i have learned a lot more about it than i already knew. I know my side of the argument pretty well but there's still a lot more out there i need to find.
*What has and/or has not surprised you the most thus far about your selected topic? Explain.
*do you think it is important for Americans to debate important issues? Why or why not? Explain. The thing that has surprised me the most about my topic is that Asian Carp have a lot more specifications about what kind of habitats then can live in than i thought. Only about 1% of all the great lakes can support them. Some banned books that I noticed were on the list include: Of Mice and Men, Bridge to Terabithia, and The Giver. All of these books I have read and in my opinion they are very good books and never should be banned. If schools are going to limit what their students can or can't read then what is the point of literature. People don.t like to read the boring crap out of a text book; they like the good stuff like sex and drugs. Yes I know these are bad things and should be taken sensitively but they are the things that give literature excitement and adventure. Taking away these books is like taking away your cake and leaving you with just a fork. It takes out the whole point of what it is.
If they were able to piece back together Mark Twain's drafts of the second half of Huck Finn I think it would make the book a lot better. In the book it kind of leaves us with some unsolved problems and keeps us wondering what happened with their lives. They would have to be careful not to corrupt the book and keep it like Twain would have wanted it. Mark Twain has a really cool writing style and I'm sure he had some great ideas for the second half of the book. I would get a lot of scholarly writers together and have them collaborate what goes into the second half. I would make a part of Twain that we have never seen be exposed to the world.
I believe that the use of racial slurs in the book The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn are appropriate
I really like Huck Finn so far because if I had a chance to be like him I probably would. He is a lot like me because I like nature and the outdoors and whenever i get a chance to be outside I take it. It would be tons of fun to live in the woods with no parents and survive on my own for long periods of time. Being in school and having a job is a lot of stress and i feel that if one day i just walked away from it all it would relieve a lot of stress and be very relaxing to live in the woods and do whatever i wanted. Also , I like how he thinks about things because he is so strait forward and he doesn't just take to the stupid ways of the world and figures things out for himself and that's what I like about him. I believe if i had a choice i would live in Huck's time period rather than right now
